The Pacific
The upcoming HBO Series "The Pacific" is not a redux of Band of Brothers set in paradise, white beaches, palm trees, clear blue waters. No, not at all. This series is touted as being true to the extraordinary viciousness that robbed men of their souls in the Pacific War. Have you ever talked, really talked to a US Marine who fought on Tarawa, Iwo Jima, etc? Most likely they told you little even as the Greatest Generation has been telling their stories for a decade now. No, they most likely will not tell you 99% of their nightmare nor would you understand it anyway. I suspect this series may open painful memories for some and reawaken respectful curiosity from the rest of us.
